SIKKIM RECEIVES THE OVERALL BEST STATE IN EDUCATION AWARD

It’s a matter of great honour and pride that in a glittering ceremony, held at New Delhi on 4th Nov 2016, Sikkim received the overall best state award in Education in the 16th India Today State of the States Award.

Hon'ble Union Finance Minister Sri Arun Jaitley was the chief guest of the function who gave away the awards. The award was received by Sri R B Subba, Hon'ble Minister for HRDD, accompanied by Sri O T Lepcha, Hon'ble Advisor and Sri G P Upadhyaya, Principal Secretary. Sri R B Subba dedicated this award to Hon'ble Chief Minister Sri Pawan Chamling, who has provided a visionary and dedicated leadership to the state of Sikkim consistently for the last 23 years leading to unprecedented all round development of the state and has always provided the department all the resources, guidance and support. He also thanked all the officers of the department and all the teachers for their hard work and dedication.

India Today group had conducted their own research as per their well established framework to arrive at the results but what went in Sikkim's favour was a healthy pupil teacher ratio, introduction of Yoga in Primary Classes, starting of LKG and UKG, a consistent teacher training regime with a focus on English language skills and mathematics, teaching of 11 state languages, establishment of reading corners, introduction of smart classes, painting of walls of schools and classrooms with very positive as well as academic messages, allocation of 20% of state budget for education and development of school leadership. All these positive policies of the state government were hailed as extremely progressive and responsible for all round development of children. Sikkim schools were found to be buzzing with positive ambience and a desire to learn on the part of students and to teach on the part of teachers. Sikkim schools were also found to have focus on moral education. Further, all schools were found to have functional clean toilets for boys and girls separately.
