On 20th August 2107, Pre-Regional Mathematical Olympiad (PRMO) was conducted at Rangpo Senior Secondary School, East Sikkim. This is a first ever initiative to conduct PRMO by a government school of Sikkim. Rangpo Sr. Sec. Out of 46 candidates, 41 appeared and 05 were absent in the said examination.
Central Board of Secondary Education has been conducting Group Mathematical Olympiad every year with an aim to strengthen the knowledge of the students, enhance their innate problem solving skills and to identify talent at a young age. The National Board for Higher Mathematics (NBHM) is in-charge of the Mathematical Olympiad Activities in India. From this year, the NBHM has taken a decision to conduct a Pre-Regional Mathematical Olympiad (PRMO) exam to ensure uniformity as the first entry stage for the Mathematics Olympiads.
It is now essential for all students to pass the PRMO examination to be eligible to appear in Group Mathematical Olympiad. The participation in Pre-Regional Mathematical Olympiad (PRMO) and the Group Mathematical Olympiad (GMO) is purely voluntary.
The School Coordinator for PRMO, Mr. Shyam K. Pradhan( PGT- Physics) & the Observer, Mr. Kshittiz Chhetri, Assisstant Professor, Dept. of Mathematics, Tadong Govt. College reported that the Examination was conducted smoothly and successfully. Further, it was learnt that the School had also organised One Day Orientation Programme and a mock examination for the benefit of the candidate.
